Sony TV shows logo and shuts down with 2 blinks error

Sony KLV-32S400A 2 Blink Error Guide: When you turn on this TV, it shows the Sony logo and then shuts down, displaying a 2 blink error. This is a common fault in this model, usually caused by fluctuations in the 12-volt line of the power supply. Between turning on the set and shutting it down, the screen shows a completely accurate picture. We will explain the cause of this fault and its solution step by step. Sony LED TV Repair Center Lahore has documented this fault in its database, and the solution is shared here so that fellow technicians can benefit.

KLV-32S400A 2 blinks error overview

2 Blink Error in Sony LED or LCD TVs happens because the TV’s self-diagnostic protection system detects a problem. This system turns on when the system IC does not get a proper reference or when the main power supply’s voltage line is unstable. If the MediaTek system IC misses this reference or the voltage fluctuates, the TV assumes the power supply is faulty and activates protection. As a result, the TV shows a 2 blink error.

Initial inspection and fault symptoms

This TV was brought to my workshop for repair, so I turned it on to analyze the fault. When I powered it up, the screen lit for a few seconds, showing the Sony logo, and then the set went into screen-off mode while the red light started blinking twice. I did not notice any sound, and the customer confirmed that this is how it behaves. I noted the details from the customer and promised to diagnose the issue the next day. I will explain the findings after that.

Checking the power supply board

I opened the back cover of this TV and tested its main power supply with my multimeter. It was giving a voltage reading of 11 volts, while it should have been 12 volts. I removed the power supply board from the chassis and began inspecting its circuits. I checked the main PFC voltage on the board, and it was correct at 390 volts. I believe this is the only Sony power supply that uses a variable circuit to regulate the 12 volts. The chassis number of this variable resistor is VR6201, and it was found to be faulty.

Fault found in the power supply section

The VR6201 is used to adjust the 12-volt power supply line. It controls the reference of the TL431 in the feedback circuit, which can cause slight variations in the 12-volt output. Its value is 201, meaning 200 ohms. This is a common fault on this power supply board because these are older models and the component is mechanical, so it wears out over time. We have also included pictures in this article, showing its location clearly. I replaced the variable resistor with a 100-ohm fixed resistor and successfully repaired the fault.

Final testing after repair

After fixing this fault, I put the TV through a final round of testing. I thoroughly checked the picture, tested the sound using a direct wire connection, and connected a cable to the tuner to ensure it was working properly. I also sent a signal to the HDMI port and ran the TV for an extended period, carefully monitoring the voltage, especially on the 12-volt power supply line, to check for any fluctuations. After all these tests were completed successfully, I informed the customer that the TV was working perfectly and ready for pickup.

  • TV shuts down showing 2 blink error after Sony logo.
  • Main power supply tested; 11 volts detected instead of 12 volts.
  • VR6201 variable resistor in power supply board found faulty.
  • 2 blink error triggered when system IC does not receive proper reference.
  • VR6201 adjusts TL431 reference, causing slight 12-volt variation; replaced with 100-ohm fixed resistor.
  • Then my 2 blink error fault was fixed.

Conclusion

In this Sony KLV-32S400A 2 Blink Error guide, we walked through the entire repair process step by step. From diagnosing the fault to identifying the VR6201 variable resistor issue and replacing it with a fixed resistor, every stage was carefully checked. Final testing confirmed the picture, sound, and voltage stability were all normal. This guide provides a clear example for technicians facing similar 2 blink errors, showing how proper diagnosis and targeted repair can restore the TV to full working condition efficiently.
